World Roma Organization | Press release | Victory Day over Fascism

PRESIDENT OF WRO AND AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE ON THE OCCASION OF
VICTORY DAY AND EUROPE DAY

The President of the World Roma Organization and Ambassador for Peace considers May 9th a great day, showing that evil and hatred towards people of other religion, race, nationality cannot rule the world. Europe, taught by post-war experiences, has opted for unity, and anti-war environment, in which all its people work together on prosperity, welfare and happy coexistence.

May 9th, 1945 is the Victory Day over Fascism, and since 9th May 1950, Europe has started its path of unification, thanking Robert Schumann, who announces a declaration calling for the establishment of a new order, and therefore the impossibility for conflicting European countries.

Such models should continue to be implemented.

"Fascism is a consequence of intolerance, misunderstanding and unwillingness to get to know and respect differences. Unfortunately, some forms still exist. It must be resolved systematically, all with the help of a strong legislative system.

Unity, diplomacy and common interests on the path of prosperity, the well-being of all people and good neighborly relations are the key to peace and stability. "- said the President and Ambassador for Peace, Jovan Damjanovic.

PRESIDENT AND AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE APPEALS

ON THE SITUATION ON KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

"The past has done more than enough to teach the right way, and not to repeat the mistakes.

Kosovo and Metohija has always been a multinational, multiconfessional and multidraditional environment. It is high time for it not to be the center of conflicts, but to cease the historical opportunity to become an example of how such environment can survive and function. The use of force in solving situations requiring a calm and cold head, democratic dialogue and mutual understanding and respect, violates the life and coexistence of all peoples who have said enough to suffering and fears.

I appeal to the leaders and high officers of K&M to return to negotiations and signed declarations and acts that guarantee a peaceful and harmonious life for Kosovo and Metohija. The diplomatic way is the only one that guarantees the peace and stability of the region, " - said the President and Ambassador for peace, Jovan Damjanovic.

PRESIDENT AND AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE ON THE OCASSION OF

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

March 21st was addopted as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Although some progress is made, it is not equally present. The Roma still live marginally in some countries, exposed to offenses, hate speech and attacks. Somewhere it is a matter of official institutions lacking in will to tackle this issue, somewhere it is corruption being responsable for the shortage of funds allocated to integration of the Roma people, somewhere the very Roma do not want to report cases of racial discrimination.

''Yesterday, as this entire week dedicated to fight against racism, should serve as a reminder to everyone that the Roma Integration 2020 is still on, and that many things have left undone, both in EU member states as well as in those waiting for that status. Discrimination aches of the Roma people are: education, settlement legalization, health, social and housing issue, as well as the issue of the employment of educated Roma, whose number rises from year to year. If the willingness and readiness of the state are present, then people addopt new streams more easily and faster.'' - said the President and Ambassador for Peace Jovan Damjanovic.

PRESIDENT AND AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE ON THE INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBERANCE DAY, JANUARY 27th, 2018

"Although some progress has already been made, the Roma are still outcasts from many social areas. They are still subject to discrimination and prejudice.

The Nazi regime was the embodiment of all hatred towards other nations that bothered them because of the colour of their skin, ethnic affiliation, religion, social status ... So many lives disappeared in the smoke of Nazi crematoriums, in camps, and the final number will never be known.

In today's, modern world of our democratic countries, all judiciary and police systems, educational and health institutions, many governmental and non-governmental organizations, and the media, should work to eradicate and sanction any discriminatory action in any sphere of social life, in joint forces with the help of ordinary people." - said Jovan Damjanovic, President of the World Roma Organization and Ambassador for Peace.

PRESS RELEASE OF THE PRESIDENT OF WORLD ROMA ORGANIZATION AND AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE

APPEAL FOR PEACE AND STABILITY IN THE REGION

"I address all people in political sphere that it is high time for tensions to calm down so that we can all continue to live and create peacefully in this region.

The tragic death of Oliver Ivanovic is just the opposite. It is a blow to the peace and security of all citizens of this region, which also threatens citizens' rights to live. We are all witnesses that conflicts do not lead anywhere, except into new bloodsheds and disturbance of life balance.

Regardless of nationality and religion, we all live under the same sky, we breathe the same air, we feel the same sun, we have the same concerns. Is it then possible that we cannot finally agree that we all, indeed, need peace and well-being in order to regulate our lives and live in peace with our families, friends and neighbours?

I put my hopes in the system that the perpetrators of this crime will be brought to justice and I appeal to politicians to reach out to each other, in order to achieve conditions for diplomacy and dialogue, as well as to avoid new conflicts that would endanger peace and stability." - said the President and Ambassador for peace Jovan Damjanovic.
